All members present stood and introduced themselves and the boats they served on.

The Base Secretary reported there was a quorum present.  The minutes of the previous months meeting have been either mailed or e-mailed to the members and therefore the reading of these minutes of was waived. A motion was made by Al Singleman and passed to approve the minutes.

The Base Treasurer was not present so the reading of treasurer’s report was waived.

CDR Ondek reported on the memorial fund, the present balance is $715.26.  He reported that Mike Stoneback was working on an investment plan.

Old Business

CDR Ondek announced the first Saturday Brunch meeting will take place next month on May 21st at the First Baptist Church in Saratoga at 11:00 am. The cost is $7.00 per person and will be catered by Tom Ondek.

CDR Ondek is still plowing through the paperwork to get the Base Tax Exempt status for the memorial foundation.

CDR reported on the difficulties of recording DVD’s on one unit and attempting to play them back on another.

 New Business

Ray Misciewicz was at the memorial ceremony in Saratoga. Ray has done several presentations on submarine life and submarine activities. He has offered to do a presentation for us. Each one takes over and hour. A suggestion was made to do this at the Saratoga Military Museum since they have a proper projection set up.

Books for Boats will be collected at the May meeting. Please bring in paperback books in good condition. Please bring in books that are appropriate. If you don’t have any books to donate and you would like to contribute, you can make a monetary donation. Tom Glenn will collect the books and Fred Carlson will collect the money.

A motion was made and seconded to send a donation in the amount of $500.00 to the Schuylerville Band that performed at the Convention. The motion passed, the money to be paid from the Convention account.

A motion was made to increase the dollar amount from $300.00 to $500.00 for the close out dinner meeting for the Convention committee. In addition to the committee, Gavin Landry and Kathy Denkenberger from the Tourist Bureau will be invited. It will be held on May 4th at the Holiday Inn in Saratoga Springs. The motion was passed, the money to be paid from the Convention account.

Donations for the following items have been requested: Socks, flannel PJ’s, non white t-shirts, women’s and men’s deodorant, men’s and women’s underwear, sports bras, shampoo, combs, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and small stuffed toys.

There are two parades coming up and we would like to have a good showing at both of them. The first is the Memorial Day Parade which will be held on Wednesday May 25th.  The parade steps off at 6:30 with line up at 6:00. We line up and follow the same parade route as our Convention Parade. Refreshments will follow at the VFW. The second parade is the Flag Day Parade that will be held on Saturday June 11th.  This parade steps off at 12:00 noon with line up at 11:30, same as the Convention Parade. Refreshments will be available afterward at the Saratoga Elks. Please plan on attending one or both of these parades. These organizations supported us during our Convention so let’s support them whenever we can.

Al Singleman plans on doing a remote control submarine demonstration in Central Park in Schenectady. More details will be available at a future meeting.

Our base is collecting items to be sent to a military field hospital in Iraq. Items that are needed include:

Men’s and women’s underwear, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, men’s pajama pants, women’s sports bras, shampoo and combs, and small stuffed animals for children. Cash donations are also welcomed. Bring anything you wish to donate to the May meeting.

CDR Ondek has a list of the NY State Sub Vets license plates that have been taken.

A motion to adjourn was made and seconded.

The next regular meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m. on May 21, 2005.  This meeting will be held at the Denny’s Restaurant on Plank Road, in Clifton Park, NY.
